RefugeeOrigamiCampBrussels was the collaborative action, in which legal and illegal refugees collectivley folded life-sized paper houses with the hand-craft technique of origami in the political center of Europe. This overexpansion, in both form and content, of the hobby attributes of origami (“small-scale, reserved and contemplative”), is fully in keeping with the expansion of the role
of art as a means of revealing acute sociopolitical issues within public spaces.
RefugeeOrigamiCampBrussels confronted political representatives and citizens of Europe with the question: What place are we willing to grant to refugees in the public spaces of this power center of
the European fortress? The camps were closed subsequent to protests on the part of the neighborhood. The inhabitants of OrigaminRefugeeCampBrussels then decided to demonstrativley carry the paperhouses through the inner city to the river Senne, to have them deported on a journey into the unknown via the sewage canal that flows through the city …

RefugeeOrigamiCampBrussels war die gemeinschaftliche Faltung von lebensgroßen Papierhäusern in der kunsthandwerklichen Technik des Origami von legalen und illegalen Flüchtlingen im politischen Zentrum Europas. Der formalen und inhaltlichen Überdehnung der Origami-Attribute: „kleinformatig, zurückhaltend und kontemplativ“ aus dem Reich des Hobbys entspricht die Ausdehnung der Rolle der Kunst als Mittel zur Sichtbarmachung akuter soziopolitischer Fragestellungen im öffentlichen Raum. OrigaminRefugeeCampBrussels stellte die Frage an politische Vertreter und die Bürger Europas, welchen Platz wir Flüchtlingen in unserer Gesellschaft einräumen wollen auf zentralen Plätzen im Machtzentrum der Festung Europas. Nach Protesten der Nachbarschaft wurden die Camps geschlossen. Die Bewohner des OrigaminRefugeeCampBrussels beschlossen daraufhin, die Papierhäuser demonstrativ durch die Innenstadt zur Senne zu tragen, um von dem die Stadt durchquerenden Abwasserkannal ins Ungewisse deportiert zu werden …
